Episode 5 – UBI: Education, research, and citizenry
Education is what allows us, citizens, to make correct choices for our literary, intelectual, artistic and spiritual development.
But the educational system did not evolve and stagnated in the 19th century.
We need to reinvent it and guarantee that it is the basis of personal and community development.

On 7 October 2019 she was given a life peerage at the House of Lords.

Inês Campos is a researcher in Social Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
Her work is mainly on transdisciplinary social sciences and climate change, with a focus on the social aspects on climate change adaptation, including social innovation and the active role of citizens and social movements in the energy transition.
Her main scope of research is providing knowledge for a just and inclusive transition and a wider engagement of society in the mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

Karl Widerquist is a philosopher and professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University-Qatar, specialized in distributive justice.
He holds two doctorates – one in Political Theory from Oxford University (2006) and one in Economics from the City University of New York (1996) – and published nine books, including works on UBI: “A Critical Analysis of Basic Income Experiments for Researchers, Policymakers, and Citizens” and “Independence, Propertylessness, and Basic Income: A Theory of Freedom as the Power to Say No”.
He was also a founding editor of the journal Basic Income Studies; co-chair of BIEN (2010-2017) e vice-chair (2017-2018); as well as one of the founders of the US Basic Income Guarantee (USBIG) Network and its coordinator for its first ten years (2000-2010).
