The amount must be sufficient to guarantee decent living conditions, which are in accordance with the social and cultural standards of the country in question. It must prevent material poverty and guarantee the opportunity to participate in society. This means that the net income should at least be at-the-risk-of-poverty level, according to European standards, which corresponds to 60% of the so-called median income per equivalent adult. Especially in countries where most people earn low incomes, and where the average income is therefore low, an alternative benchmark (a basket of goods, for example) should be used to determine the value of the basic income, so that it guarantees a life with dignity, material security and full participation in society.
\nThe purpose of this site is to inform and promote discussion about unconditional basic income in Portugal, so that the best ways to organize and implement this system can be found.[\/vc_column_text]\t\t\t\t\t\t

In 2006, BIEN became the Basic Income Earth Network.<\/p>\n
\nBIEN does not adopt any specific Basic Income project, but instead promotes a plural debate on this subject.
